Discussions

Overview

Discussion forums allow learners and educators to have structured conversations linked to lessons, courses, or general class topics. Discussions are class-scoped — only class members can participate.

Creating a Discussion Topic

  1. Navigate to your class → Discussions → New Topic
  2. Enter a title and opening prompt
  3. Choose: open discussion or moderated (posts need educator approval)
  4. Set a close date (optional — topic stays open until manually closed if not set)
  5. Pin to the top of the discussion list (optional)

Participating

  1. Learners navigate to Discussions from their class dashboard
  2. Click a topic to view and reply
  3. Replies can be text-only or include an uploaded image
  4. Educators can reply to any post

Moderation

In moderated discussions:

  1. Posts appear in the Moderation Queue before going live
  2. Educators approve or reject from the queue
  3. Rejected posts can be flagged for follow-up with the learner

Noticeboard

The Noticeboard is distinct from discussions — it is one-way educator-to-learner communication:

  1. Navigate to Noticeboard → Post Notice
  2. Notices appear on the learner's class dashboard
  3. Notices can have an expiry date
  4. Noticeboard engagement (views) is tracked in Analytics
